Star Trek Phase II: Krv i vatra (Blood and Fire)

This article is completely unrelated to Bullyparade or their version of the old Star Trek; instead I’m happy to announce that ‘Blood and Fire’, a new episode of the Star Trek Phase II fan project, was recently released for download. As I already reported, ‘Blood and Fire’ is a Star Trek episode originally written by David Gerrold for The Next Generation, but the script was rejected because it was supposed to show a pair of gay crewmen on the Enterprise. Gerrold re-wrote the story for this project, he co-wrote the script with Carlos Pedraz and directed the whole thing. Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar from The Next Generation) co-stars, while the episode reintroduces the character of captain Kirk’s nephew, an ensign who is involved with a lieutenant.
I can almost feel your scepticism after having read the intro, especially the bit where I mention that this is a fan-produced project, but the production values of the episode are quite good. After all, the script was written by the author of one of the most popular Original Series episodes, it’s not too hard to achieve good special effects nowadays, and the acting is sufficiently good. The gay subplot is fleshed out more than it was originally supposed to be, but it doesn’t seem too forced. All in all, a solid part one of a two-parter bound to interest all the gay trekkies (you wouldn’t believe how many of them there are), as well as regular trekkies who can bear to see two guys romantically involved. Part two is expected to be released ‘in the near future’.

Ovaj članak nema veze s Bullyparade ili njihovom vizijom pra(starih) Zvjezdanih staza, već ću vam umjesto toga sa zadovoljstvom najaviti da je ‘Krv i vatra’, novi nastavak fan-projekta Star Trek Phase II, konačno objavljena. Da vas podsjetim, radi se o dvodjelnom nastavku Zvjezdanih staza koju je David Gerrold napisao za Novu generaciju, ali scenarij je bio odbijen jer je epizoda trebala prikazati jedan gej par među posadom Enterprisea. Gerrold je priču preradio za potrebe ovoga projekta, scenarij je napisao u suradnji s Carlosom Pedrazom i prihvatio se redateljske uloge. U epizodi gostuje Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar iz Nove generacije), a ponovno predstavlja i lik nećaka kapetana Kirka, koji je zastavnik na brodu i koji je u vezi s izvjesnim poručnikom fregate.
Već njušim koliko ste skeptični na ovaj cijeli uvod, posebno na dio da se radi o fan-projektu serije, ali produkcija epizode je zaista solidna; scenarij je, na kraju krajeva, pisao autor jedne od najobožavanijih epizoda originalnog Star Treka, kvalitetne efekte i montažu u računalnom dobu nije toliko teško postići, a i gluma je na posve podnošljivoj razini. Gej podzaplet je dobio nešto istaknutiju ulogu nego što je prvotno trebalo, ali ne doima se isforsiranim. Sve u svemu, solidan početak priče u dva dijela koja će zanimati gej trekije (ne biste vjerovali koliko ih ima), ali i redovne trekije koji mogu podnijeti prizor dva tipa zajedno. Drugi dio epizode snimljen je, a bit će objavljen u ‘bliskoj budućnosti’.
